Here is a picture of the bed and breakfast we stayed in -Bo Pensionat
our room was on the top floor and we had the balcony. The bathroom was a true swedish/european bathroom - which is the shower is not separated from the sink/toilet area and everything can (and did) get wet. Shannon was not much of a fan of this set up.
This place also appears to have a lot of garden events...the 'garden' was large and lovely with many tables and chairs set up around the property. They also had an apple tree and yes, it did have fruit on it.
We also completed the 1st fill up...took a couple of gas stations to get one that had an actual person at it. Why did we need a gas station with a real live person? It seems that we American's aren't up with the times. All the european credit cards have a 'chip' in them and use a 4 digit PIN number. Our cards don't have a PIN so you have to have a real person to check you out so that you can pay for your gas. It was a bit comical. The young man told us to
1. press the yellow button first
2. press the green button second
3. fill up the car
well...we pressed the yellow button first and the green button second, but couldn't ' fill it up'...the pump started making this beep...beep...beep sound. So we cancelled that transaction and started over. We did this about 4 times and then the young man appeared at our side, shaking his head and saying ---press the yellow button first, then the green button (while he was doing it). Thank the good lord above, it didn't work for him either! Whew...we weren't 'those dumb americans'. He had to go back inside and press a button there or something and then it worked.
Wanna guess how much it cost to 'fill 'er up'???
so take a moment and try to figure it out in US dollars....
so it was actually about $125.00 US dollars to fill up the gas tank....which comes out to $8.71 a gallon.
Glad we don't have those prices in the states!!!! Shan says be happy with the $3 to $4 a gallon we pay.
This is just outside Kalmar Castle.
This was our lunch yesterday ---Subway rocks!!!!
We also learned that Oland Island used to have over 3000 windmills...they were used for the usual purposes - grinding grains. Currently there are only 300 windmills left. They dot the landscape all over the island. Some are basic others are a little fancier - with stucco bases or barns attached to them.
Here is a map southern sweden and it also shows wher Oland Island is located. We were where the red dot is.
So that is more about our day yesterday.
We'll post some info about our drive from Kalmar to Stockholm later...
We are testing out how to leave a comment
