So we decided to take the scenic route back to Edinburgh and am glad we did. Per the usual, the scenery was spectacular even with the rain and fog.
But came upon something in google when I was trying to find out why the route we were on was historical - a place where they weave tartans. We were just 5 miles away - talk about perfect timing!
Here are way too many pictures as we were able to get a tour
This is the Darning room where 2-3 ladies do quality inspections and if there are little problems with the weave they fix them. She was gracious enough to explain it to Shan and I and even showed us how to fix a few things and how to recognize them. It was so very interesting
All of their yarn comes in a natural ecru color and they dye it as needed. They have a very specific way to manage the consistency of colors over the years
Above is one of the tubs they use in the process
And a rack of recently dyed yarn that is waiting to be dried
We also learned we can create our own tartan - the will help with designing it - all the different steps- then they will weave 30 meters of it for you - if you get 60 meters the. They waive the design fee -
