Golf Cart Day

 Today was an easy day and we had the most fun!   We took a tour of Rome on a golf cart - it was soo much better than the Hop on Hop off tour - we went down “ streets” that were in my opinion, a sidewalk

Got several amazing views of Rome - one in particular was of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica. We learned that there is an optical illusion associated with just this dome.  When you stand far back it looks really big - but as you move closer it gets smaller!  Our guide - Faaa bio shared this with us.  Shan and I walked back and forth several times and OMG it got smaller and bigger. Very neat

Another neat event we were able to experience due to Fabio - (faaa-bio) rushing us and telling us get to the wall- fast fast fast.

It was because at noon on the dot there is a cannon that fires off.  It was something that evolved from a war in 1500-1600’s to being a way to notate the time so churches could ring their bells, to today doing it because it’s been done for so long and also a political stance - the only time is doesn’t go off is when there is not a president and that may happen for just a few days to a week

We also made a stop at the Vatican to walk around the square - we tour there tomorrow. But oh my it was beautiful!

We even got to see the Swiss Guard - who have to be Swiss, single, be at least 5’8” tall, and under 30

Just had to make a stop at this market so Shan could buy some figs

We also stopped at the Spanish Steps - which is not the real name - just American slang that took on a life of itself.  We had some stairs to go down and back up but it wasn’t so bad

We took a short walk later and grabbed some gelato - not any ole gelato but the true in house made gelato  it was very good
