Herculaneum and train to Rome

Arugh!!  We had to set the dreaded alarm this morning - as our driver was arriving at 8:30   We had breakfast which included a freshly picked orange.  It was delicious Today’s driver was Gaspare and he was fantastic - asked about car sickness. And then drove fairly slowly through the Tilt-a-Whirl roads.  He was a pleasure to chat with also.

We made it to herculaneum with no issues and off we went on our tour. Our guide is an archeologist and had wonderful tidbits of information to share - along with pictures.

herculaneum And Pompeii were vastly different from one another - herculaneum was engulfed in mud - which allowed the mosaics, frescos , and actual skeletons to survive.

These are actual original doors

These are the real skeletons

This is a wine bar and the menu just outside of it

Gaspare then whisked us off to the Naples train station - he parked, brought our luggage, checked the platform and showed us which gate to use - how’s that for service!

Shan and I grabbed a bite to eat then got on the train- with no issues.  It was a quick trip of 1 hour 10 minutes going about 180 mph

Got to our hotel and checked in and off we went!

Found gelato - YUM- Shan had watermelon that was to die for.  I had chocolate - go figure

Our destination was the Trevi Fountain - it is huge and beautiful and packed with people

We had dinner and are now back in the room.   I am so excited to be here!  We tour the Colosseum tomorrow - can’t wait!!!

I leave you all with more “glamour” photos and one that evokes memories of Olan Mills in the 80’s
